What the Frame Changes

How a frame case differs from a shell that closes on a zip.

Rounded corners instead of square

The frame is formed to a consistent bend radius at each corner rather than meeting at a square joint. That keeps the closing gap even the whole way round, which is what the corner geometry on an aluminum frame luggage build is there to control.

Closing on the frame

An aluminium luggage suitcase of this type closes on the frame itself rather than on a zip running around the shell. The closure line is metal on metal, and the lock sits in the frame.

28 litres at 4.5 kg

That is the standard wholesale build at 20 inch. A frame adds weight against a plain pressed shell of the same size, and the trade is the closure and the corner control you get back.

What we can change

This shell already has tooling, so a branded run starts without a mould charge. Everything below is specified per order.

Logo and artwork

Laser engraving, UV printing, silk screen or embossing. The method is chosen to suit the surface finish, and there is no tooling charge to brand an existing shell.

Surface finish

Brushing, sandblasting, anodizing, electrophoresis, spray coating, PVD and etching. A scratch- and fingerprint-resistant coat can be added on top.

Colour

Matched to your specification rather than limited to the stock list. Stock colours for this model are shown in the table above.

Lining and interior

EVA, nylon or PU lining, with compression straps, divider, zip pocket or a fitted insert built to your drawing.

Hardware

Lock, wheels, corner guards and trolley handle can all be changed. Casters are available detachable on request.

Packaging and size

Gift box, printed carton and carton marking to your artwork. Sizes outside the standard range are quoted against new tooling.

Custom Frame Case Programs

Three routes, depending on how much of the case you need changed.

Logo only, from 50 pcs

Shell, frame and finish stay as they are and only your mark goes on. Laser engraving, UV printing or silk screen. A logo sample takes about 7 days.

Full program, from 300 pcs

Shell colour, surface finish, lining, hardware and packaging specified by you on tooling that already exists. This is the normal route for an aluminum frame luggage line under your own label, with no mould charge.

New shell, from 1,000 pcs

A different frame profile or a shell shape that does not exist yet needs its own tooling. CAD takes about 7 days from your drawing and the tooling about 30 days.

How this shell is made

Frame Forming

R-Corner Control

A rounded frame has to hold the same radius at all four corners or the lid stops sealing. The frame is formed and checked against a gauge before the shell goes on, and the gasket channel is cut after forming so the seal follows the finished curve rather than the design drawing.

Questions buyers ask about this model

Answers apply to this shell. Figures for other models are on their own pages.

What is the difference between a frame case and a zip case?

A frame case closes on a metal frame with the lock set into it. A zip case closes on a zip running around the shell. The frame is heavier and holds the closing line more evenly, which is the reason buyers specify it.

Why rounded corners rather than square?

A rounded corner is formed to a set bend radius, so the frame keeps the same section all the way round instead of relying on a joint at each corner. It also removes the sharp point that takes the worst of a drop.

What does it weigh and hold?

4.5 kg and 28 litres in the standard wholesale build at 20 inch. Changing the lining or the hardware moves both figures.

Can we have colours other than silver and black?

Those are the shell colours held in stock. Other colours are matched to your specification, and the finish route is chosen to suit the colour.

Does this model come in sizes above 20 inch?

This shell runs at 20 inch. Larger sizes come from other models in the range, or from new tooling.

What is the minimum order?

300 pieces per model for a full program on this shell. 50 pieces if the only change is your logo. 1,000 pieces if the shell needs its own new mould.

Can we see a sample first?

Yes. A logo sample takes about 7 days. Bulk production runs 30 to 45 days after the sample is approved.
